Portland Timbers Tie With Houston Dynamo at Home: 3 Takeaways From An Extremely Entertaining Match
Fans inside Providence Park were treated to a thrilling 2-2 tie on Saturday night. Riding a two-game winning streak & steadily climbing their way back up the Western Conference table, fans were hoping for some more Timber Magic.
They were gifted just that as Portland managed to keep a point in the Rose City before embarking on a two-game road trip next week.
Things began early, with a Sebastian Kowalczyk clean up goal in just the 8th minute of the match. A gut punch to the Timbers Army right out of the gate. Felipe Mora responded with a Rodriguez assisted goal right before half-time in the 37th minute, his 8th goal in 13 appearances this season.
Both sides returned to the field int he second-half & just as quick as the Dynamo's first goal, Adalberto Carrasquilla netted a dagger after a beautifully sold & placed pass from Hector Herrera in the 50th minute.
Portland never gave up & stayed on the attack. Ultimately resulting in a beautiful header from substitute Nathan Fogaca to reignite the crowd in the 76th minute. Things weren't neccesarily calm after that as another Kowalczyk goal nearing the 90th minute took the air right out of the stadium before it was overturned with an official review & offside ruling.
And Portland's midfield maestro continued to try and earn his team the victory as an absolute missile of his hit the cross bar. Along with another set piece that was nearly successfully place in the night by none other than Fogaca who was on an absolute tear off of the bench.
