New report suggests Timbers offered Yimmi Chará to Brazilian club on loan

Reports out of Brazil have suggested that the Timbers may be looking for the a way to move DP winger Yimmi Chará out of Providence Park. Most of the attention has been on the club's potential incoming players this winter, as the calendar ticks down towards the start of the 2023 regular season campaign. However, with salary cap restrictions, the club will have to shift some of their higher earners should they look to make more moves in the market.
The club have already wrapped up the signing of Evander from Danish side FC Midtjylland, and could be looking to strengthen the squad further ahead of the start of the season. But before that, their focus appears to be shifting towards moving on from some current high-earners.
According to Brazilian journalist André Hernan, and relayed by Time do Povo, Yimmi Chará was offered to Brazilian outfit Corinthians on a loan deal, meaning the Timbers would retain at least a portion of his wages should the Colombian make the jump. Chará, along with the bulk of the club's high earning attackers, underwhelmed in the 2022 season, chipping in with just 4 goals and 3 assists in 34 MLS appearances. However, it could be difficult for the club to fully shift the winger onwards, as his current salary at Providence Park is on the high side - with some reports suggesting he makes close to $2 million per year. That figure would make him one of the highest paid players in Brazil's Serie A.
Back on the pitch, Gio Savarese's men begin their preseason duties in the coming days, with their opening friendly of the year coming on January 21 against Sporting KC in Phoenix, Arizona. After that clash, the Timbers will head to Souther California to take part in the Coachella Valley Invitational where they will prepare for the upcoming campaign in games against LA Galaxy, Toronto FC, and NYCFC.
